Make It Happen or Wish It Happened
So, you’ve set your goals, you’re clear on what you want to achieve, and you know what will bring your optimal happiness and fulfilment...but what now?
Often, we think by setting goals we are guaranteed to succeed and everything we have ever wanted will magically appear. We decide on a dream job, say we want it, put a photo of it as our lockscreen of our phone and expect it to materialise somehow, just because we wrote it down. Unfortunately, it is not that easy, BUT the good news is that there’s a method and there is a way you can have everything you have ever wanted.
YOU can make it happen.
This can often feel like the most daunting and challenging part. You may experience feelings of failure, low self-esteem and frustration as you may not tick these goals off as quickly as you would like... but don’t worry. This is totally normal, achieving your goals requires energy and sustained effort. That’s why falling in love with the journey and the process is just as important as the destination! Remember, if it was easy everyone would be doing it.
At The Head Plan we say, ‘write it down & make it happen’. Write down your goals and consistently review, but the latter half is where the magic happens! This isn’t just a catchy phrase, it is a powerful, neuroscience-backed affirmation and the key to making substantial change in your life.
We have achieved some pretty big goals using our method... from securing investment from the longest standing and most successful Dragon, Peter Jones, on BBC Dragons’ Den to collaborating with Forbes ‘queen of manifesting’ and Sunday Times best-selling author Roxie Nafousi, from building a community of over 120,000 Head Planners to securing Shopify milestone awards, an app that went to number one in app stores to dream store placements and pop-ups... we have made it all happen. Now, it’s time to pass on the knowledge and show YOU how to make it happen.
This is your blueprint for optimal success, fulfilment and happiness.
How to actually make it happen:
Break It Down:
At The Head Plan, we are passionate about setting both long and short-term goals... but also breaking these goals down even further! The Head Plan Journal helps you break your aspirations into weekly goals and then encourages you to act every day in alignment with these goals. It might seem small, but intentionally aligning your actions every single day will amount to great success.
For example: I will read 25 books this year becomes I will read 2 books a month (and an extra one on holidays!) I will do this by dedicating 30 minutes to reading every evening before bed. To make it even more achievable, keep a list of all the books you want to read! Refer to this list regularly and tick them off as you go.
Vision Board:
Last week for the Seeds of Growth Challenge you set your goals, so now it’s time to get visual. Visualisation is one of the most powerful tools you can master. Ever heard the quote - “if you can see it you can achieve it”? Well... it’s true. Setting a new goal activates your Reticular Activating System (RAS), which acts as a filter in the brain, prioritising our goals. By regularly exposing ourselves to images of our desired outcome, we signal our RAS to be more attuned to opportunities in line with our goal! Our brain is effectively constantly on the lookout to make our goals attainable.
Top Tip: Use the vision board pages in The Head Plan Journal. Cut out images aligned to your long-term goals and create your own vision board in your journal. Reflect on this page regularly when planning your day to ensure you are living in line with your goals.
Start Small:
Nobody ever left their house and ran a marathon without running 1km first. Your goals are made up of small, actionable daily steps. Chances are, if you’re working towards a goal, it is going to take time. The main reason people give up on their goals is because they don’t dedicate the time or energy to achieving it. You can’t just set a new goal, sit back and expect it to unfold, YOU have to make it happen by taking continuous daily action.
Top tip: Schedule small actionable tasks every day that will help you make substantial progress in the long run. For example – set yourself the goal of going on a 20-minute run 3 times a week!
Plan, Plan, Plan:
Breaking your larger goals into smaller, attainable actions is the key to success. Planning your day in advance the evening before enables you to take control of your day. We recommend breaking up your day as designed in The Head Plan Journal – main goal of the day, top 3 priorities & other to-dos. We also leave space for notes & appointments, gratitude and space for the ultimate goal – my selfcare & wellness action!
Reflect And Fine Tune:
People often refrain from reflecting incase it’s not an overall positive outcome. Sometimes, it can be just as beneficial to not receive your desired outcome, this can help you know how to move forward! If you set yourself the goal of reading every evening for 30 mins with the aim of getting halfway through your first book in a week, but in reality, you actually only read 4 nights of the week and are only 50 pages in you need to review your system. Why didn’t you read? Were you distracted? Was the book not appealing to you? Were you too tired by the time you got into bed? By reflecting on this we can move forward and refine your action plan, rather than repeating the same mistakes. Maybe you need to leave your phone in another room, change your book or read on your commute instead of in the evening?
Top tip: Use the weekly reflection pages in The Head Plan Journal to reflect on your week, be honest with yourself! Reflection is an essential part of growth! Seeing your highs and lows of the week all in one place makes it easier for you to fine tune your system and acknowledge anything that may have stood in your way.
The Head Plan Journal. Both setting and achieving your goals is an ongoing process, but The Head Plan Journal has mastered the tools and bound it all in one journal. From setting your goals to intentionally aligning your actions every day, weekly reflection to vision boarding we have it all in one place! Master your daily action plan and take control of your day and your life.
